Business : Water & Life Bangladesh (W&L), a registered NGO, created by the French NGO Eau & Vie is active in Bangladesh in the livelihood development of Urban Slum dwellers implementing water supply, firefighting, hygiene promotion, sanitation and solid waste management activities.
W&L Bangladesh works in close association with the social business company Shobar Jonno Pani Ltd. (SJP), created by Eau & Vie in 2010, specialized in water supply in urban slums of Bangladesh, aiming at creating quality-controlled, piped and metered water supply networks which are financially viable, socially responsible and adapted to the needs of urban poor.
Thanks to the quality of services provided and the efficient billing system, the social enterprise gradually widens its field of action by becoming a multi-services actor, including the waste collection and the sanitation services. An innovative sanitation service is under development, ensuring proper access to safely managed latrines and wastewater and storm water evacuation.
Both W&L and SJP are engaged in partnerships with the local communities, authorities, water operator and other development stakeholders.

Job Context

  • Water & Life Bangladesh (W&L Bangladesh) is a non-profit organization, established by the French NGO Eau & Vie. The NGO is active in Bangladesh with the goal of improving the living condition of Urban Slum dwellers by implementing water network, firefighting, hygiene promotion, sanitation and solid waste management activities.
  • W&L Bangladesh works in close association with its social business company Shobar Jonno Pani (SJP), also established by Eau & Vie, which is specialized in safe water supply for lower income community who do not have access to water in Bangladesh, aiming at creating quality-controlled piped and metered water supply networks, which are financially viable, socially responsible and adapted to the needs of urban low-income community.
  • Both W&L Bangladesh and SJP engaged in partnerships with the local communities, govt. authorities, water operator and other development stakeholders through two branches one in Dhaka and the other one in Chattogram.
  • TYPE: Permanent
  • LOCATION: Based in Chattogram Branch.
  • REPORTING TO: Senior Branch Manager
  • Functional coordination: Senior Finance Admin Manager
  • COORDINATION WITH: Finance Admin department at HO, HR, all operations teams at the Branch.

Job Responsibilities

  • The Finance and Administrative officer will be in charge of taking care of the administrative and accounting aspects of the W&L and SJP programs in Chattogram. Moreover he/she will be responsible of the human resources aspects for the Chattogram branch, in coordination with the Human Resources Manager-HO.
  • Details responsibility shall include but not limited to the following:
  • Accounting:
  • To record organization’s all kinds of daily transaction (Receipt/ Payment/Adjustment) with proper voucher and accurate documents.
  • To support to the FAM on the implementation of the Fin-Admin processes and rules/compliance with the manual.
  • To ensure the Bank deposit of the received amount against all kinds of service of the organization with proper voucher/documents.
  • To follow up SJP daily collection and ensure daily bank deposit.
  • To maintain Advance procedure According to Manual.
  • To maintain advance register, Cheque issue register and Cash Book Register.
  • To take care W&L and SJP Branch Inventory & Maintain Stock register including job order encoding
  • To conduct monthly Store Audit.
  • To conduct monthly SJP Client Ledger Audit in coordination with the encoder.
  • To prepare monthly salary sheet and other benefits and ensure bank transfer on time after receiving necessary approval.
  • To prepare daily cash closing statement and report to the Head office.
  • To take care of petty cash management.
  • To prepare monthly Budget forecast and Budget realization statement.
  • To calculate deductions for VAT and TDS and confirm deposit to government treasury as per government law and to report to the Head office.
  • To prepare monthly bank reconciliation statement.
  • To prepare different accounting report as per the requirement.
  • To maintain advance register, Cheque issue register and Cash Book Register.
  • To maintain banking relation (new cheque book, Bank statement etc.)
  • Administrative:
  • To provide all the administrative support to Chattogram branch (house rent/Car rent/ monthly Stationary/ IT tools etc.
  • To prepare different contract/agreement
  • To provide all kinds of procurement related support to Chattogram branch.
  • To provide all kinds of logistic related support to Chattogram branch.
  • Prepare monthly salary sheet and other benefits and ensure bank transfer on time after receiving necessary approval.
  • Up-date Fixed Asset register.
  • Human Resources:
  • To monitor staff attendance activities and Leave Management
  • To provide information and assistance to staff, supervisors and council on human resource and work-related issues for the branch.
  • To participate in various events and session management when required.

Educational Requirements

  • MBA (major in Accounting) / Master degree in Accounting / any other relevant discipline (Educational qualification can be relaxed for exceptional candidates and candidates with relevant experience).

  • Experience in NGO sector will be given preference
  • Skills:
  • Computer skills (MS Office) is a MUST
