HI has been working in Bangladesh since 1997, with a focus on creating sustainable changes in terms of ensuring the rights and inclusion of persons with disabilities in society. HI promotes an inclusive approach by focusing on access to services for all whenever possible rather than developing specific actions for persons with disabilities. HI works with persons with disabilities and with their families, their communities, and society. The main office is based in Dhaka, and presently there are 4 project offices (Kurigram, Sitakundu, Ukhiya, and Teknaf) and 1 coordination office (Cox Bazar).

Presently HI Bangladesh is implementing projects on integrating disability in community-based disaster risk reduction and response; economic empowerment of extremely poor persons with disabilities; mainstreaming disability in livelihood interventions; support to refugees and surrounding communities, capacity building of professional associations; and support to Disabled People`s Organizations; among others.

Job Context

  • HI has been working in Bangladesh since 1997, focusing on creating sustainable changes to ensure the rights and inclusion of people with disabilities in society. HI is an independent and impartial aid organization working in poverty, exclusion, conflict, and disaster situations throughout Bangladesh. With projects in different districts of the country, HI works not only with people with disabilities and other vulnerable populations, but also with their families, their communities, and local humanitarian actors to respond to their essential needs, improve their living conditions, promote respect for their dignity and fundamental rights, and provide sustainability in its action. As one of the key organizations in the disability sector, HI has a wide range of projects that assist in promoting the inclusion of persons with disabilities and their issues in emergency and development contexts, building capacities of local stakeholders, and reducing the impact of natural and human-made disasters. Particularly in Cox`s Bazar district, HI is providing services in rehabilitation, MH/PSS, SRH, protection, and inclusive education with an inclusion mainstreaming approach to refugees and host populations affected by the forcibly displaced undocumented Myanmar nationals. HI`s multi-sectoral mobile units (MU) and static approach are currently working in 15 camps in Teknaf and Ukhiya Upazilas and surrounding host areas, providing comprehensive physical rehabilitation, primary health care, protection, and MHPSS services.
  • HI is implementing a development and humanitarian response project in Kurigram, and Cox`s Bazar district through 4 project offices (Kurigram, Ukhiya, and Teknaf) and 2 coordination offices (Dhaka and Cox Bazar).

  • HI is currently looking for an Inclusion Officer-Mainstreaming for its Inclusive Education project funded by Unicef. The Inclusion Officer-Mainstreaming contributes to the implementation of the mandate and the 10-year strategy of Humanity and inclusion in the country where s/he is based. The Inclusion Officer-Mainstreaming contributes to the implementation of his/her project, ensuring the optimal quality and impact of the project. S/he works closely with the programme technical team.

Job Responsibilities

  • Mission 1: Operational implementation
  • Responsibility 1: Contribute to project planning and implementation in line with the existing frameworks
  • Contribute to planning and preparing activities, tools, and the associated resources, and implement the action plan in conjunction with the support services and the technical unit.
  • Ensure that activities are implemented and that resources are correctly allocated as authorized by the project manager.
  • Ensure regular reporting of activities, and contribute to the internal and external reporting as requested by the project manager.
  • Contribute to identifying areas of the project in which adjustments are required and put forward adaptations to the project manager.
  • Contribute to the drafting of amendment requests when asked by the project manager.
  • Contribute to coordination with the local stakeholders and to monitoring the partnership relationship with the project partners.
  • Ensure that project documents and information are properly archived.
  • Increase the knowledge humanitarian community regarding people at risk of exclusion, factors of exclusion, and solutions to remove barriers;
  • Promote the effective consultation (participation) of communities affected by crisis before, during, and beyond humanitarian interventions;
  • Reduce barriers to access during the design and implementation of humanitarian services;
  • Support the challenges (barriers) that need to be reduced as well as the good practices (resources) that need to be promoted
  • Participated in the different levels of the service offered, including the institutional level, the program, and the service offered: Participated in elaborating the framework of the services, policies, planning, resource mobilization, knowledge, skills, and attitudes of teams, operational tools, and guidelines
  • Responsibility 2: Contribute to project monitoring, evaluation, accountability, and learning
  • Contribute to project monitoring, specifically activity progress indicators and the expected outcomes.
  • Contribute to project evaluations at the request of the project manager, and ensure that project evaluation recommendations are followed.
  • Contribute to the setup and smooth running of accountability mechanisms.
  • Contribute to project learning.
  • Responsibility 3: Ensure project data management
  • Ensure that the appropriate data collection and management tools are in place and are used correctly on the project, in line with global standards.
  • Collect and compile project-related data in the relevant database.
  • Responsibility 4: Contribute to the coordination of project teams
  • As authorized by the project manager, facilitate coordination meetings between the project teams and the support services located in the area when necessary.
  • Ensure that the project teams and the support teams (shared and technical services, in particular) work well together in order to facilitate the implementation of the project in the country.
  • Responsibility 5: Contribute to external project communication
  • Contribute to HI’s external influence by taking part in networks, when required.
  • Communicate about the project to partners, authorities, and stakeholders when relevant.
  • Mission 2: Emergency Preparedness and Response
  • Contribute to the programme’s emergency preparedness initiatives, and in an emergency situation, adapt his/her working arrangements in order to contribute to an effective humanitarian response from HI.

Educational Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Rehabilitation Science (Occupational Therapy/Physiotherapy/Prosthetics and Orthotics/Speech and Language Therapy), Disability Studies, Inclusive Education.
  • Preferable – Master’s in a relevant discipline.

  • Knowledge of disability and development issues in Bangladesh
  • Have the capacity to maintain close relationships with partners, stakeholders, and clients
  • Experience in contributing to data collection and indicator tracking within development projects or programs
  • Computer knowledge (MS Office package- both in English and Bangla)
  • Excellent communication skills in both verbal and written Bangla and English
  • Ability to work under pressure and in a multicultural team environment
  • Availability to travel to remote areas and spend time at the field level
